Star Volunteer Spotlight

The community response to the Napa Quake Mosaic has been phenomenal in so many ways! I am beyond grateful to so many people who have helped bring this project to life. Here are just a few of the incredible folks who've made this project happen:

Giada and Lori Parise: This mom-daughter powerhouse team has been helping all summer with all the studio work!

Jeni Olson, founder of TeensConnect, not only sorts the brown treasures at the studio, but organizes teen meet-ups for groups of youth to come work on the project as well

Anne Pentland, one of the super talented artists and teachers at Nimbus, who has helped manage the public workshops. Her community-built mosaic experience and technical advice has been instrumental! There, but not pictured, the rest of amazing ladies of Nimbus, Sandra Cruz and Jamie Graff

Public Workshops at Nimbus Arts

We are holding several public mosaic workshops this year with the support of Nimbus Arts. Nimbus is the perfect partner for the Quake Mosaic in so many ways. Not only do they have a beautiful work space, talented and generous staff members, but they have loads of experience with large collaborative mosaic projects with their incredible Hundreds of Hands program.

What an incredible weekend at Napa Makes! So much positive creative energy, Bay Area makers-galore and a TON of new Quake Mosaic folks. We had so many mosaic makers, we ran out of material and had to run to the studio for more!

First Signs of Spring

Instead of starting over at Carpe Diem, we decided to update the windows over a period of a couple months. Keeping the birch tree trunks in place, it was time to reflect the seasonal changes happening in Napa.

Before - the birch trees with falling snow and snow drifts on the ground.

SO, STAGE TWO: February 2018, First Signs of Spring. With a little help from actual Canadians (Aunt Debbie and Uncle Gerry, visiting from BC), my Mom and three year old niece, we removed the falling snow and most of the snow on the ground. We added touches of spring: new grass popping up, buds on the trees and a few woodland animals waking up from hibernation. Plus a cameo from a local toucan, who added all the warmth we needed!

My newest assistant (3 year old niece, Kyla) decided she wanted to add 'pink flowers and green grass'.
